The Pharmacologic Studies of the Lumbricus terestris Goto et Hatai

Abstract
|
|
|
The effects of Vermis-(Lumbricus terestris Goto et Hatai)extracts on. The serum cholesterol and blood-sugar levels from normal and alloxan-diabetic rabbits were observed.
The crude drug was extracted by methanol, and extracted samples were orally administrated to the normal and alloxan-diabetic rabbits. The serum total cholesterol and blood-sugar Ievels of normal rabbits admistrated with sample, no significant variation were detected. The serum cholesterol and blood-sugar levels of alloxan-diabetic rabbits were significantly increased after 3 days.
The increased serum total cholesterol levels of alloxan-diabetic rabbits were significantly decreased by administration of the Vermis-extracts, and were returned to the control levels after 11days. However, the increased blood-sugar levels of alloxan-diabetic rabbits were not significantly decreased by administration of the drug.
According to the above results, it would be concluded that the Vermis-extracts influences for the recovery of the increased serum total cholesterol levels.
